Race 2008 Final Sprints (Minor One)

This one was quite fun... especially the 1000m singles, where competition was non-existant because there was no Brandon, no James and no Marcus. Brandon went for opens and the other two decided the Inter-Schools were too near. I'll describe the races like the last post.

K1 1000m (Saturday)

At first I didn't know James and Marcus weren't participating, so I was quite worried. I didn't want another stressful repeat of the Inter-Schools. I didn't want to give them a shot at revenge. But then I found out that I had straight finals with only four boats, 2 SJI sec ones, Barnabas and I. I knew that Barnabas could never touch me in 1000m (sorry being ego) and how good could sec ones be anyway?

Still, before the race I went to wish the sec ones good luck and tell them that there was still a bronze to win between both of them. One of them was not bad... he actually managed to pace me for nearly 50m. Barnabas fell back the moment we started. After that it was a breeze for me - I wasn't even pushing hard. After completing about 750m, I told myself, "When's this going to end? It's getting boring... This race isn't any fun. I guess I'll just forget about my last 200m sprint." I still did a last 25m sprint though, to make it look as though I was trying.

After that I turned back and saw my roughly 100m lead and screamed, "YYEE..." *hyperventilates* "crap..." Then I rowed to let them check my boat. I turned around just in time to see Barnabas get totally trashed by a sec one guy. LOL. Quite funny actually. I timed a 4:48 (slight headwind for most of the race, slight right wind at the last part), quite okay seeing that I was sort of slacking.

K2 500m Heats (Sunday)

I complained about having to take K2. I didn't like it. I still don't. But the heats were okay because his stroke rate wasn't that fast. We beat Lucas and Zhihong (by less than a second). I don't get how Barnabas could smile like that during the race... He told me that he didn't get as tired in K2 compared to K1 and that he didn't go all out during the race (he told me to go all out before the race)... We timed a 2:05 but we could have done much better...

K1 500m Finals (Sunday)

Another straight finals. This time with 5 boats. Same as the 1000m race but plus some random FC guy from some random school. I didn't want to exhaust myself too much during this race because my K2 wasn't that far away. All I wanted was a gold. Is that too much to ask for? Oh yeah... can't ask for any more.

I went to wish the SJI guys good luck again before the race and asked him to try for silver again (I'm being nice okay?). I was quite confident about my gold medal but then when the race started, I got a bit worried. That FC guy beat me in my starting burst (if you can call it a burst, that is). He started to wear out though. Sometimes those adrenaline freaks really make me laugh... After the race. I owned him after 300m, where I started my uber last burst (which isn't exactly very fast) and kept Barnabas at a comfortable distance behind me without overburning myself. I got my second gold =). I timed a 2:23! That's almost like my 1000m timing divided by two haha. There was very strong head wind but still? How much more slack can I race at?

K2 500m Finals (Sunday)

Barnabas was asking for rest after the K1 race. He said he was super tired and needed it. Is keeping pace with me that tiring? I wanted to go down as soon as possible so that we wouldn't miss the race. I hate his carefree attitude... It's what caused him to lose the 500m Inter-School. He kept saying that he beat them before and could do it again but look what happened? He didn't win anything. Lost to the people I got so worried about losing to.

This race was a repeat of what happened in our Inter-Schools K2 race. The SJI pair got 1st again, Lucas and Zhihong got second (this time they beat us by less than a second) and we got third. Ah well, can't say I expected any better. The pair who got fourth were about 10 seconds away.

After The Race

I had three hours to waste. First I went to eat my lunch. Then I went to paddle C2 with Brandon, where he graciously whacked my head with his paddle when we lost balance. My ear's bruised and bleeding now. After that I got emo and went to stone up the hill using my life jacket as a pillow. Then I went for the prize presentation.

That's it. It's past 10 now and I gotta sleep early for morning gym tomorrow. Have fun not having morning gym (if you have it then good luck to you).
